Hello everyone, hope you had a fantastic Christmas! I personally had a very quiet dinner with my parents - er, as quiet as you can whilst hacking and coughing - we've all managed to catch the cold >.< But anyways, I'm excited to say that these dolls are finally finished! I actually finished them a while ago, but only got around to photographing/blogging about them now. I found these blank wooden dolls online, on an Etsy shop, earlier this year, but couldn't figure out what on earth to do with them. I had several ideas - I wanted something ornate, and intriguing, but also something that fit in a single cohesive theme. I finally settled on a fairy tale-ish look - as you can see here, I'm referring to the unabridged, dark, messed up, non-Disney-fied kinds. C: First I sketched out some ideas, mostly for the bigger dolls. Naturally I wanted the biggest one to be the most ornate and eye-catching. Initially I was thinking of a more greyscale color scheme, with only a few splashes of pink here and there. I later figured that that was incredibly boring. ...and then fleshed out the designs onto the dolls. Laying down the paints - also, my embarrassingly messy desk. Here's a shot of the back, which I referenced from some vintage fabric and freehanded with ink. I'm really happy with how it turned out! The little ones were a challenge to do! Halfway done!!!
I had a lot of fun doing these. The dolls have been varnished, dried and are available for purchase in my Etsy shop. Have a great day! Megan Missfit

Hey Seattle! Starting this upcoming weekend I will be doing a few local shows for the holiday season. These are some really great events! Stop by if you are in the neighborhood, get some Christmas shopping done and support small local businesses :) I will be selling my prints, originals, necklaces and greeting cards at each of these.
Megan Missfit Hello everyone! It's been a while since I updated. I hope all you U.S. readers have a lovely Thanksgiving this week! I'd like to announce the sale that I will be having in my Etsy shop this weekend for Black Friday/Cyber Monday (click the 'SHOP' tab in the upper right, or follow this link). Everything in my store, including LE prints and originals, will be 15% off. Just enter the coupon code CYBORG13 by clicking the 'Apply Shop Coupon Code' link upon checkout. The coupon code will go live on Friday at 12am PST and will expire Monday at 11:59pm PST. Since my last blog post I have added a ton of greeting cards, and some prints! Nothing too terribly new, just more options, more tentacles, and of course more alpacas :) Need some unicorn magic to adorn your walls? Or perhaps the walls of a loved one? This gorgeous archival print is available in size 8x12 ;) ***If you are buying for Christmas, please note my holiday shipping deadlines: December 1st - International (outside of USA) December 15th - Domestic (USA) Dec 1st is right in the middle of BF/CM weekend. I will be shipping out all orders the following Monday to help them get to their destinations in a timely manner. After Dec 1st I cannot make any promises that they will make it under the tree in time, as they may get held up in customs. U.S. buyers should still order as soon as possible, the earlier the better! Christmas is less than a month away! Happy shopping :) what are your Thanksgiving plans? Are you braving the crowds this Black Friday? Megan Missfit Tomorrow I will be at the Jet City Comic Show at the Tacoma Convention Center! I will be at table # C-11 selling prints, as well as these alpaca cards! I'm so excited!! Why alpacas, you say? Why not! They're cute, funny, awkward, and very impressionable creatures. I first started with a plain alpaca drawing, but then decided that that was boring. So I drew party attire on him (see pic #1). Then I decided that he needed to be on greeting cards, so I went out and bought a whole bunch of greeting card related things (paper, envelopes, etc.). But then I decided that wasn't enough either so I did another version of him with an ugly Christmas sweater and thus the awkward alpaca Christmas card was born (see pic #2).
But I am not done yet! I am thinking of doing a whole series of these little guys. I already have Valentine's and Graduation versions drawn up, just not printed yet. Birthday and Christmas are available in my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MeganMissfit The cards are 4.5x6.25" (A6) and come with matching envelopes :) And speaking of which, here is a picture of me with a baby alpaca during my trip to Peru last year! He/she wasn't too keen on being in the company of this weird bipedal creature trying to take a picture, lol. What a cutie! Hello everyone, I have finally decided to set up my blog on here! I've been meaning to but have put it off for far too long. I'd like to show you a new piece of mine :) It is a trilobite fossil! Drawn on wood, with conte crayons, Copic markers and ink. I don't usually dabble in non-digital media. I used to as a kid when I actually took art classes millions of years ago, working with mostly acrylic paint and oil pastel, and then moving on to oil paint in high school. I discovered digital art when I was around 14 years old, starting with just a mouse and then eventually moving on to a tablet. In the beginning I was quite terrible at it, but after I got the hang of digital painting I never really looked back. For the most part, a vast majority of my work - from doodles to full paintings - are done on Photoshop. ...but now traditional media is starting to make a comeback for me!
I really love drawing on textured surfaces, which is why a lot of my original pieces are on wood. I also have quite the affinity for smaller-sized artworks. I acquired these wooden postcard-sized panels from a shop on Etsy, and I've been having a ton of fun with them! I still have quite a few left, so you'll be seeing more of these. This piece is available for sale in my shop :) |
